Adobe Photoshop CS3 and Photoshop Elements

We're now offering the following Photoshop workshops:
Photoshop CS3 Workshops (6 hours each, for both Windows and Macintosh)
  Photoshop CS3 Level 1 (Introduction)
  Photoshop CS3 Level 2 (Intermediate)
Also see our new Fireworks CS3 workshop, for working with Web images
(this is the "replacement" program for Adobe ImageReady, which has been discontinued)
We're also offering
Photoshop Elements 5.0 (2 hours, Windows only)

Photoshop CS3 (also known as Photoshop 10.0) is the latest release of an amazingly powerful and complete program for working with digital images, and yet for all its power, it’s surprisingly easy to learn to start using it effectively. These workshops are for both the first-time user of Photoshop, as well as for more experienced users who want to learn to do more with the program, or to explore what this newest version has to offer.

Whether your images are destined for the Web, for home or kiosk printing, for email, for PowerPoint presentations, for commercial printing, or elsewhere, you’ll find that Photoshop will be able to meet nearly all of your needs right out of the box. The Windows and Macintosh versions of the program are identical in function.

Photoshop Level 1 (Introductory) Workshop

Our Introductory ("Level 1") Photoshop workshop is ideal for both:
  those new to Photoshop, and
more experienced users who want to dramatically improve their Photoshop skills and abilities (including anyone who wants to "move up" to the full-featured Photoshop program from other more limited or less convenient image editing programs)

We'll start with a general tour of Photoshop’s features (including several added with Photoshop CS2), and then quickly move into learning how to retouch and enhance your images with a with number of easy-to-use techniques.  Along the way, you'll develop an understanding of the important characteristics of digital images, so that you'll easily be able to decide how to best improve your own images after the workshop's over.

After this workshop, you'll know how to make your images much better looking thanks to the professional techniques you'll learn.  You'll learn to use the new "one-click red-eye correction" and "spot-healing brush" tools to easily eliminate flaws in your photos.  You'll also learn how to make overall image adjustments, including how to optimize "tonal range" of your image (using "levels" and "auto levels"), as well as to adjust hue/saturation and color balance, and how to crop, "burn," and "dodge" (cut, darken, and lighten) portions of your image.

You'll further understand the important characteristics of digital images and appropriate scanning resolutions, and will learn several other techniques for making overall adjustments as well as doing fine-detail retouching -- including use of the cloning and pattern stamp tools to eliminate unwanted details (or blemishes!), and sharpening an image using the new "smart sharpen" filter.  You'll even pick up some simple "adjustment layer" techniques (to try different adjustments without permanently changing the image), and will do basic "image optimization" for Web-destined images!

Photoshop Level 2 (Intermediate) Workshop

The Level 2 (Intermediate) workshop builds on techniques learned in Level 1.  You'll be amazed at that you'll be able to do by combining layers, masks, and channels, easily creating incredibly sophisticated and professional-looking results.  The workshop includes learning more refined  techniques for making selections (isolating part of an image), including working in "quick-mask mode," using the "magnetic lasso" tool, doing "free transforms" and more.  You'll also learn how to "extract" an image from a complex background, and how to combine multiple images and text into a single "composited" image.

From among the many other capabilities of Photoshop, we'll also include techniques for working with filters, layer effects (such as drop shadows and embossing), creating "layer masks" and "clipping groups," tinting grayscale images using "blending modes," and much more.  While all this may sound complicated, it's actually quite easy to start using these techniques and more.  Whether your images are destined for print or for the Web, everything you learn in the Level 2 workshop can be combined with techniques learned in the Adobe ImageReady (Photoshop Web) Workshop as well!

Adobe ImageReady CS2 Workshop (& Photoshop Web Features)

ImageReady News

Effective with the release of its Creative Suite 3 ("CS3") software, Adobe has discontinued ImagerReady (i.e., there will be no "ImageReady CS3").  Instead, Adobe is now promoting Adobe Fireworks CS3 (formerly Macromedia Fireworks) as its new web-specific web image processing program.

We are no longer offering ImageReady workshops, but will be offering Fireworks CS3 workshops instead.

A Historical Note:  Although many Photoshop users may not have been aware of it, Adobe ImageReady has been automatically included and installed with Photoshop for 5 past versions (from Photoshop 5.5 up through Photoshop CS2 (Photoshop 9.0).  The bottom button on the Photoshop toolbar automatically opened and transferred the current image to the ImageReady program (and an equivalent button at the bottom of the ImageReady toolbar transferred control back to Photoshop).
