The Center for Teaching
Excellence has been actively engaged in facilitating
instructors to collect and analyze information about their teaching, and their student’s learning, since its inception. More recently, however, the Center created the subdivision of Educational Research to more formally pursue these efforts. Specifically, a 50% appointment was created solely for the purpose of assisting instructors in the area of conducting educational research (to

Some of the goals for these efforts include:
- helping instructors mesh their two roles by conducting peer-reviewed
research on teaching and learning;
- advocacy for this scholarly research in the promotion and tenure process;
- promotion of undergraduate research experiences and community-based learning;
- and providing technical assistance on designing, conducting, and reporting scholarly research
on teaching and learning.
Cheryl Bullock is uniquely qualified to fill this role. She has taught and
conducted research in her role as an Adjunct Associate Professor in Educational
Psychology at UIUC and her doctorate is in Quantitative and Evaluative Research
Methodologies. Additionally, she has provided evaluation and assessment
consultations and services for Departments that span all UIUC Colleges, as well
as units such as the Library, Partnership Illinois, and the Fire Institute.
Most importantly, Cheryl fully understands the service role required for CTE
personnel as they facilitate instructors in the improvement of their teaching
and their students' learning.
Please contact Cheryl Bullock (cdbulloc@uiuc.edu) if you would like to meet with
her, or if you would like her to make a presentation for your unit, division,
or teaching academy.
